Back again is the Culinary Arts Kitchen, a staple borrowed from sister line Oceania Cruises, but a massively popular offering that lets 18 students create memorable dishes under the guidance of a chef team. I had the great pleasure of working on the Regent Rainbow for nearly 10 months from July '94 to May '95 out of Tampa..as port lecturer & cruise staff. I thought that one of the principles in the endeavor was someone from the French Pacquet Line. They did then acquire the Regent Sun and Regent Star, and went bankrupt around 1995, rather abruptly as I recall.

Three days before final payment was due, I heard a rumor in the maritime commmunity of Seattle that the Fair Princess was in Victoria, & the scheduled charter to "some other cruise line" had just fallen through. Our travel agent had heard nothing & so through my connections I was able to get the whole scoop & immediately told the travel agent; did not make final payment & somehow I actually got the deposit back about a month later. Excursions might include wine tasting at a castle or an evening of flamenco dancing. Passengers looking for a more inclusive experience will be happy with Viking or Regent Seven Seas. Both cruise lines offer inclusions other high-end brands don't, and neither of them will leave you feeling nickel and dimed. Regent Seven Seas has a long reputation for luxury in the world of ocean cruising, while Viking, a trendsetter on the rivers, is the new kid on the block on the oceans.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises Ships
This all-inclusive luxury cruise line offers over 300 ports-of-call, making sure you see the best and brightest in each region and have the opportunity to try some unique and exciting shore excursions. For example, Regent Seven Seas Cruises has visited over 20 ports in Northern Africa and India alone, which means you can delve deep inside the Middle East and Holy Land regions with an Africa and India cruise. Regent Seven Seas prides itself on offering an all-inclusive luxury experience; even before you step onboard, all your worries are taken care of, from airfare to dining to on-shore activities. Amenities like unlimited shore excursions, pre-paid gratuities, and free unlimited Wi-Fi are just some of the distinguishing features of a Regent cruise. All meals and beverages are included in your cruise fare, as well as a stocked in-suite bar filled with your favorite liquor, wine, or champagne.

La Veranda is the ship’s main buffet restaurant for breakfast and lunch; during our sailing, we enjoyed sushi, lobster, paella, salads, and a very delicious cronut during casual meals here. In the evening, La Veranda becomes Sette Mari at La Veranda, a table-service restaurant serving Italian food. If you want a classic cheeseburger, lobster nachos, or a Korean fried chicken sandwich — or even just a milkshake by the pool — the Pool Grill has you covered with relaxed al fresco eats.

Nowadays, that type of cuisine just isn't to be found in the cruise lines that appeal to the masses. It's not uncommon on Regent Seven Seas to see parents sailing with their adult children, who might bring their wee ones. It's unlikely you'll see kids on longer cruises or voyages when children should be in school. Menus at all restaurants are vast, and dietary restrictions and preferences are easily accommodated. Compass Rose has one of the largest menus of any main dining room at sea, and it allows passengers to pick from a few dishes from specialty restaurants each night. Viking has two included specialty restaurants, Manfredi's and The Chef's Table.
"Our experienced itinerary planning team conducts comprehensive research, engages with local destination experts, and assesses the destination's attractiveness," DeMarco says. "This includes meticulously evaluating several factors, including destination popularity, cultural significance, and infrastructure readiness, to identify potential new ports of call." Strengthening communities the line visits is another focus, with a range of sustainable, socially and environmentally responsible shore tours available for guests. Highlights of the overnight stay programme include destinations such as Bangkok, Monte Carlo and Istanbul. Safaga, a popular jumping-off point for tours exploring the many wonders of Luxor in Egypt, is another highlight of Regent Seven Seas' extended stay programme. If you're a fan of discovering the city's nightlife, there are more than 100 overnight ports of call to choose from.
Seven Seas Splendor offers Mediterranean cruises before departing from Barcelona in August to reach Montréal, featuring Canada and New England itineraries. Subsequently, the ship is expected to head to the Caribbean and South America for the winter season. It’s a welcome and fitting addition to the dragon and prayer wheel sculptures on its two sister ships. All passengers, regardless of suite category, get mini-bars set up and replenished daily, fresh fruit, unlimited bottled water, a fair amount of storage space, 24/7 room service and a wide selection of on-demand movies and television programming. None of the cabins across Regent Seven Seas' fleet are inside rooms, and only a handful -- on Navigator -- have window views rather than full balconies.
For everyone on board is the spa with an infinity pool that looks out over the stern, fitness center, jogging track, casino, several lounges, card room, library and main pool. Top-deck fun includes pickleball, shuffleboard, mini golf and ping-pong. Some seven-night Miami-based sailings go for as low as $3,700 per person based on double occupancy. The luxury pedigree that Regent Seven Seas welcomed with Seven Seas Explorer in 2016 continued with sister ship Seven Seas Splendor in 2020, but the third and final sister Seven Seas Grandeur offers up the best of class.
Regent Seven Seas is the most-inclusive cruise line in the market today, and as such, the initial price paid up front is, unsurprisingly, among the highest in the industry. Regent regularly refurbishes its older ships, resulting in a fleet that generally feels fresh. The line's small ships and low passenger capacity can make for a more intimate experience, and the high space-to-passenger ratio means you never feel crowded. Like Viking, Regent Seven Seas is a perennial award winner, taking home prizes such as best luxury cruise line and best cabins in Cruise Critic's Editors' Picks. "We are continually looking to incorporate new ports of call to enable our guests to discover new parts of the world," says Andrea DeMarco, president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, in an interview with Travel + Leisure. She notes that Africa and the Middle East are of particularly high interest among Regent passengers — so much so that the company has added nine new sailings in the regions.
The company calls flagship Explorer the most luxurious cruise ship in the world, and it has invested in getting the rest of the fleet up to that standard. In 2018, the line completed a $140-million refurbishment project that added Explorer features to the rest of the existing fleet, modernizing public spaces and cabins and bringing on restaurant concepts from Explorer. Shared spaces are comfortable yet opulent, with marble-topped tables, leather chairs and fresh-cut floral bouquets everywhere. While not strictly an adults-only cruise line, Regent cruises are best for adults traveling without small children. The Club Mariner children’s program (for ages 5-17) is available on select sailings, but with many adult-focused spaces and entertainment, this ship is better suited for travelers without little ones.
If you were one of the lucky ones to have sailed on the original REGENT SEA...you would know what I am talking about. It was a great cruise and a great product and it is sorely missed by those of us who were fortunate enough to have had the experience. We were considering other Regency cruises when the bankruptcy was announced. Passengers were practically stranded at sea as I recall, and the crews were not getting paid. Both Viking and Regent Seven Seas offer adult-centric experiences, but only Regent allows children to sail. Food quality is high, and there's something for everyone at every restaurant.
